Day 6 - Addis Ababa

We got up on Day 6 of our trip and got ready but were running late evidently. In Ethiopia, people do not work on American schedules.  It is really quite hard at first to get used to people being early by 30 minutes to an hour or late by a hour.  Nothing like our work days that are managed in 15 minute increments!  Part of it is traffic- but most of it is that Ethiopians don't place value on time.

Our driver got there and after waiting for us to finish getting ready, we proceeded to the van where the other family we were meeting in Ethiopia was waiting. After many flight issues because of the snow, they had made it in the day before and we were going back to the children’s home to pick up their daughter. I loved getting to watch them meet her for the first time. There is nothing comparable to the moment parent and child meet.  It is amazing!

We were  happy to go back because we had a lot of questions for Elliott's nanny. Elliott also got to see her second favorite nanny who hadn’t been there the day before. She had great fun playing with the older children there and it was obvious they were used to playing with her. At one point the children took our camera from me and had fun shooting up a storm. It worried the nannies because you aren’t supposed to take pictures of the children without a release but we promised to delete the ones of the kids and not to post them anywhere and they let the kids have fun.

Next came lunch at a golf club. Yes, they play golf. It was nice and we sat outside enjoying the great weather and the beautiful flowers. Lunch for two people is about 90 birr or about $7.00.  It was a great place to relax and the food was always good.

Ethiopia is on a different type of calander than the US and there it is 2002!  Elliott was born in 2001...very interesting.
